Headlight Restoration
What is the problem with those yellow foggy
headlights?
Since 1987 polycarbonate plastic is used by the automobile
manufacturers because of its tensile strength and the ability to be
manufactured to conform to the front end styling of a vehicle. Although it is
a very hard plastic, it is also very porous.
During manufacturing a protective silicone hard coat is applied to the
headlight lens. This silicone hard coat is supposed to protect the
headlight lens from intense sun, heat, road chemicals, bugs, humidity
and acid rain, etc. But these elements, combined with the heat of the
halogen bulb damages the protective hard coat to the point that an ugly
discolored, cloudy, hazy appearance develops on the lenses. This
damage will restrict the headlights ability to project its beam of light at
night, and during adverse weather conditions, may diminish the
ability to see by as much as 70%.Over time, plastic light
enclosures become discolored, foggy, scratched, clouded, yellowed,
pitted and seemingly destroyed by the harmful effects of the sun, and
many other factors.
This effect will not only degrade the value of your vehicle and its
appearance, but also can create a loss of your headlights key
function - 'illumination'. This natural deterioration can be
extremely dangerous when driving at night.
Dealer replacement lenses can cost as much as $1,000 or more per
headlight not including installation. Labor to install can be very expensive
as well because of the extensive time involved including having to remove
bumpers, fenders and other items just to get to the assembly.
When you account for how much better your vehicle will look, the
increased resale value, and taking care of a dangerous safety issue, why
would you do anything but get the problem fixed immediately.
Let us restore your headlights like new, for a fraction of the cost.
